Why hemp seed needs a validated kill step

Hemp seeds are frequently consumed raw or simply rehydrated — soaked in puddings, blended into smoothies, sprinkled as toppings, or pressed into seed butters [4]. Because they receive no further cooking step at the consumer’s end, they are treated as ready-to-eat products, and any pathogen present at packing reaches the plate.
